Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is the most commonly performed orthopedic procedure. The main complication associated with ORIF is surgical site infection. Depending on the population under investigation, the total rate of problems following ankle fracture repair ranges from 5% to 40%.wound complications have been documented to affect 1.4% to 18.8% of patients. SSI is identified as the most common hospital-acquired infection related to ORIF complications, adversely affecting bone union and functional rehabilitation. Various risk factors for SSI are highlighted, including advanced age, higher BMI, smoking, diabetes, and the severity of the injury. Studies indicate that the incidence of SSI can lead to increased hospital stays and re-hospitalization rates. Understanding these risk factors is crucial for improving patient outcomes and minimizing SSI occurrences in surgical practices. This review synthesizes findings from multiple studies, providing a comprehensive overview of the challenges associated with ankle fracture surgeries and the importance of addressing SSI to enhance recovery and rehabilitation.

This study presents the analysis of transit turnaround efficiency of Airbus (New Engine Options) NEO aircrafts- A321Neo, A320Neo compared to that of their CEO (Current Engine Options) Airbus models - A320, A321, A319 in a typical airline operation. The refined real data related to the transit turnaround is obtained using comprehensive timing reports from tech-logs and questionnaire sessions conducted with airside staffs of both engineering and commercial ramp team of a standard Indian airliner operating at one of the busiest airports of the country. The data was collected under normal operating conditions, and delay scenarios are deliberately excluded to provide a clearer idealization of aircraft ground performance. This study does a collective and graphical analysis in regard to key performance metrics, including but not limited to the main concerns of the study. Both practical operational advantages and challenges of NEO variants as opposed to their CEO counterparts are pointed out. It is concluded from the observations that NEO Airbus aircraft show higher turnaround efficiency, driven by more predictable Target Off Block Time (TOBT) for better operability. The results also depict the ideal compromise between operational efficiency and maintenance requirements for the purposes of airline performance optimization. The inferences from this work will prove highly beneficial to any commercial airlines contemplating fleet upgrade strategies to develop an effective ground handling process.

This study investigates the biology and functional response of the Large White Butterfly, Pieris brassicae, on Cruciferous crops, which include economically significant plants like cabbage, mustard and cauliflower respectively. We explore aspects such as life cycle, feeding behavior, and population dynamics of P. brassicae to understand its impact on these crops and to develop potential management strategies. The effect of different host plants and rearing atmosphere on life cycle of cabbage butterfly, Pieries brassicae were studied during the year 2021-23. Insects were reared in the field (fluctuating weather) as well as in the laboratory (constant rearing conditions) on three host plants, viz. cabbage, cauliflower and mustard. Slightly differences were found in the incubation and pupal period of butterfly reared on different host plants. However, larval period was found to be significantly lower on cabbage followed by cauliflower and highest on mustard. Therefore, the developmental period (from eggs to adult) was reasonably lower on cabbage. Furthermore, inverse relationship was found in the body weight of butterfly and developmental period, where weight of full grown caterpillar and pupae was significantly higher on cabbage and lowest on mustard. Overall, the development of P. brassicae was much faster on cabbage than other hosts.

Blood transfusions are essential in modern medicine but carry risks, including transfusion reactions ranging from mild to severe. This review underscores the importance of haemovigilance, a system that monitors and analyses adverse events throughout the transfusion process to improve safety and prevent complications. The active involvement from healthcare professionals is crucial for effective haemovigilance, which includes proper reporting, education, and quality assurance initiatives. The review discusses the evolution of haemovigilance, noting a shift from focusing solely on infectious diseases to including noninfectious reactions. Programs like India's Haemovigilance Program and the National Blood Donor Alert Program highlight significant advancements in monitoring and improving safety for both patients and donors. Challenges such as inconsistent definitions and underreporting persist, requiring collaborative efforts and standardized procedures. Pharmacists play a key role in haemovigilance through monitoring, education, participation in committees, and ensuring proper handling of blood products. Studies reviewed reveal a prevalence of febrile nonhaemolytic reactions and underreporting issues, highlighting the need for robust haemovigilance systems. IT-based haemovigilance shows promise but needs careful implementation. Donor Hemovigilance Programmes (DHVPs) effectively enhance donation safety, especially in resource-limited settings. Education and training interventions for healthcare professionals significantly improve compliance with transfusion protocols and reduce errors, highlighting the importance of continuous education in enhancing haemovigilance practices. Overall, the review emphasizes that fostering a culture of awareness and reporting among healthcare professionals is vital for optimizing haemovigilance and ensuring safer blood transfusion practices.

This review provides a comprehensive overview of carbapenem resistance in gram-negative bacterial infections, emphasizing the critical role of carbapenem antibiotics in treating severe infections caused by resistant pathogens such as Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacteriaceae. It details the mechanism of action of carbapenems, which involves penetrating bacterial cell walls and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis. The review also outlines various mechanisms of resistance, including decreased permeability, active efflux pumps, target mutation, and hydrolysis by carbapenemases. Furthermore, it identifies significant risk factors for carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacterial (CRGNB) infections, such as prolonged hospitalization, prior antibiotic use, and invasive procedures. The limited treatment options for CRGNB are discussed, highlighting the emergence of new antibiotics and the importance of antimicrobial stewardship in managing these infections. Overall, the review underscores the urgent need for effective prevention and control measures to combat the rising threat of carbapenem resistance.
