In the Indian context, persistent legislative and executive inaction has often resulted in critical gaps in the formulation and implementation of social and public policy, particularly in addressing the needs of marginalized and vulnerable populations. In response to this policy vacuum, the judiciary emerged as an active player through the innovative mechanism of Public Interest Litigation (PIL), transforming its traditional role from a passive arbiter to an agent of socio-political reform. The paper investigates the role of PIL as an instrument for social justice and public policy reform and will aim to trace the historical and conceptual development of PIL in India, analyze its effectiveness in prompting policy changes and systemic reforms, and critically examine the limitations and challenges associated with the judiciary's presence in the policymaking process. The paper seeks to explore both the transformative potential and the contested terrain of PIL in India, arguing that despite its limitations, PIL has emerged as a powerful driver of social justice and public policy reform

This paper proposes, models, and evaluates a dual-purpose hydraulic footpath concept: a pedestrian pavement that (1) incorporates hydraulic actuation to temporarily raise/lower the pavement to create emergency or overflow vehicle lanes and (2) integrates permeable pavement layers to improve hydraulic performance and reduce surface runoff. We review existing literature and practice, present a conceptual design and hydraulic/traffic modelling methodology, and show results from a case study simulation at a signalized urban intersection. Results indicate that--when combined with appropriate traffic control and safety measures--the hydraulic footpath can reduce vehicular queue lengths at critical intersections and provide flood-relief/permeation benefits compared with conventional impervious footpaths. Design, safety, maintenance, and cost considerations are discussed, and practical recommendations for pilots are given. (Note: where experimental data are required this study reports results from deterministic simulations and literature-derived benchmarks; field trials are recommended before deployment.)

The grouping of villages in Mizoram during the insurgency period remains one of the most significant and transformative developments in the social history of the region. Introduced by the Indian state as a counterinsurgency strategy after the outbreak of the Mizo National Front (MNF) movement in 1966, grouping involved the forced relocation of dispersed rural populations into centralized settlements. The primary objective of this policy was to isolate insurgents from civilian support networks and to bring rural populations under closer military and administrative surveillance. The paper examines how grouped settlements gradually evolved into centres of educational expansion, infrastructural concentration, and bureaucratic accessibility. Schools, churches, dispensaries, roads, post offices, and administrative institutions became concentrated within grouped villages, creating new opportunities that were previously unavailable in many dispersed hill settlements. Over time, these grouped centres emerged not merely as temporary sites of displacement but as socially and economically advantageous spaces that reshaped aspirations, livelihoods, and settlement patterns. Drawing upon oral narratives collected from respondents in Lungdai, Khawzawl, Ruallung, Hnahthial, and Kawrtethawveng, the study demonstrates how education became one of the most important long-term consequences of grouping. The legacy of grouping continues to shape contemporary patterns of settlement, education, mobility, and institutional development in Mizoram. By examining the intersection between displacement and educational transformation, this paper contributes to broader debates on forced relocation, modernization, state formation, and social change in Northeast India.

Traditional knowledge attributes to an enormous realm of wisdom and belief elaborately intertwined with the cultural artifact of indigenous and regional communities, developed by their close interaction with the environment and transmitted through generations by oral tradition, frequently finds expression in the intricate web of performing folk art. Cultural identity is the wide sense of belonging to a mass, a central element of one's self-conception and worldview, which is characterized by its own distinctive traditions and customs. The state Odisha consists of different tribal groups which comprises communities like the Kondhs, Gonds, Santhals and the Bondas. The traditional wisdom and distinct cultural identities of these tribes formed the essence of these indigenous groups. The paper aims to explore the traditional knowledge systems of these tribes of Odisha and their cultural expression. The study further seeks to highlight the ways adopted by these tribal communities to transmit the knowledge. The analysis also investigates the procedure for preserving the cultural identities and ancient knowledge of these tribal communities. Furthermore, it will consider the challenges these communities encounter in the modern era, marked by globalization, encroaching development, and modernization, questioning the existence of their traditions in a dynamic world. Thus, this paper endeavours to examine the complex relationship between traditional indigenous knowledge and the cultural identity of tribal communities, alongside the ways of preserving and cultivating the abundant cultural legacy of Odisha's tribes.

Abstract--Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder characterized by reproductive, metabolic, and hormonal disturbances in women of childbearing age. Rational pharmacotherapy remains central to its management, yet prolonged treatment is frequently associated with adverse drug reactions (ADRs) that impair patient adherence and treatment efficacy. This prospective observational study evaluated drug utilization patterns and ADR profiles in 20 PCOS patients at a tertiary care hospital. The most frequently prescribed agents included metformin, clomiphene citrate, oral contraceptive pills, and letrozole. Commonly observed ADRs encompassed nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances, weight fluctuations, and hormone-related adverse effects. Systematic pharmacovigilance practices and evidence-based prescribing are imperative to optimize clinical outcomes and patient safety. This study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting structured ADR monitoring and rational drug use in the management of gynecological and endocrine disorders.

A simple, rapid, accurate, and cost-effective second-order derivative UV spectroscopic method was developed and validated for the simultaneous estimation of Drotaverine Hydrochloride and Paracetamol in combined pharmaceutical dosage forms. The method was based on second-order derivative spectroscopy employing zero-crossing points to resolve overlapping spectra of both drugs without prior separation. Methanol and distilled water (or suitable solvent system) were used as the solvent for preparing standard and sample solutions. The wavelengths selected for estimation were based on the zero-crossing points of each drug, enabling accurate quantification of Drotaverine Hydrochloride and Paracetamol in the presence of one another. The developed method was validated according to analytical validation guidelines for parameters including linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantitation (LOQ), and robustness. Both drugs exhibited good linearity within their respective concentration ranges with satisfactory correlation coefficients. Recovery studies demonstrated acceptable accuracy, while precision studies indicated low percentage relative standard deviation (%RSD), confirming the reproducibility of the method. The proposed method was successfully applied for routine quantitative analysis of Drotaverine Hydrochloride and Paracetamol in tablet dosage forms with satisfactory assay results. Hence, the developed second-order derivative UV spectroscopic method can be effectively employed for quality control analysis in pharmaceutical industries due to its simplicity, sensitivity, and economical nature.
